Spookiness!!!

Happy Saturday all, today I have enjoyed a rainy day, how about you? Plans for me were to get into the craft room and create all day and wouldn't you know it...where is the Mojo??? well who knows, I think it has gone on its own rest time....don't you hate that!

I did however after much thrashing around in the craft room, manage to create something and here it is...

I actually started with stamping the house from the Two Houses stamp set onto white card stock and began colouring it in with my Copics and trimming out, before I knew it I was on the path of creating a Halloween scene..and although we don't really do Halloween out here I thought I could always change the sentiment at the top that was from the Celebrate Everyday stamp set. To make it a more Halloween looking card I stamped what looked like a wrought iron fence, stamping the Small Metal Flourish along the bottom of a piece of white card stock that had distress ink, Black Soot applied over the top. Once I was happy with the look, I inked up the Magical Background stamp with Pumice Stone distress ink and stamped over the top. Finally, adhering the house with foam dimensionals, rounding the two top corners and adhering to a pool note card.

Here is a closer look at the card...

My dilemma now is to find where my mojo has gone to, I sure hope it returns, what with lots to do in the craft room.....

Now before I leave you this afternoon I have a share of something that sits in my dining room and has been on our table for sometime, it lays upon a light blue table runner..that being my hurricane candle holder....it did come with a candle and I have been debating as to whether I place another candle in there or something else, as you can see the room is blue with dark wood pieces of furniture..I painted the room after we had storm damage to the ceiling and I quite like the colour but now the question is posed as to what to place inside the hurricane candle holder....I would love to here suggestions as to what you think would be good...my style is very much like my crafting work, that being Less is More... our house contains antique furniture and goes with the style of our little cottage house with the lavender bushes and a little brick path....

I leave you now pondering this question and look forward to hearing what you all think...

Have a wonderful Saturday!

Hugs

Awesome card Joy! I love a black sooted background!! :) I love the shadows around the light coming from the windows.

I've had a quick brainstorm :)
Maybe you could surround your hurricane lamp with some beautiful flowers from your garden, so you can have a different look each week! Or... with your Silhouette you could do some glass etching on your hurricane lamp... :)

Wow! the house looks illuminated and spooky. Great coloring, Joy! Love the background as well.

fantastic card - great stamping!

how about filling the hurricane with pinecones, then swapping them out for christmas ornaments when winter comes?

Stunning. Love the blue on the gray background. Great card!

I have them in my house too and I change the contents all the time. You can buy really nice dry flowers at Spotlight or a home decor shop and they are big not in pieces so they look stunning. At christmas my favourite thing to do is to fill my vases with different size christmas balls in what ever colour my decor is for that year

gorgeous card! I love how blue the house is in comparison to the dark background.

Now, for the hurricane vase...I have 2 suggestions; #1, some moss (or similar and some neutral stones (small) around the bottom and then some little lavender sprigs sticking up a bit (like a little garden?!)
#2 fill it (or if the item is larger, just do one) with antique items (like keys or something), all brassy and dark, they'd look lovely with all your furniture.

be sure to show us what you decide to use!

Hi Joy! Your card is so cute, and I don't think the mojo has disappeared at all, but I SO agree, it's the worst feeling when you feel that it has.....going through the same thing myself right now.
I love the color of your walls in the photo......first thing I thought of was some sand and some pretty seashells, filled only to about 1/4, to still show off that lovely hurricane. I guess you're in a different season there, though, so maybe reserve this idea for when your summer arrives......

another great card Joy! Love it!
As for that beautiful hurricane vase, how about a rustic orange pillar candle? The color would be a perfect contrast to your beautiful pale blue walls, yet close enough to the dark brown table/chair color to compliment it. That's what I'd do! :)

Fill the hurricane with pretty rocks

I just love this card... you are very creative... I think your mojo is still there just taking a mini-vacation. Sometimes I go back to some of my previous cards and try to update them with current tools and products. Tks for sharing!

Love this fun, spooky, Halloween card, Joy! The fab colors on the house make it just glow against your inky background!

I would change the decor, in and around the Hurricane lamp, with every season. I've seen some beautiful ones with twigs and berries for Christmas and others with pretty, pastel flowers and leaves for Spring and Summer. Adding a few of these things inside, along with a candle is so pretty, then decorating around the outside as well. Hope you show us what you come up with when you decide! Hugs!

Joy, this card is sooo cute! I know what you mean about how sometimes the creative process can take us in a very unexpected direction. But the result is usually worth it.. like here! That adorable house just pops with color! :)

Your hurricane is beautiful! I love them, too.. have a couple and also have a few apothecary jars (large like hurricanes but with lids) and I have various sized wicker balls inside them. The spheres are a very simplistic shape, but the texture is swarm and rustic and they provide great interest without looking too busy! I'm sure if you just Google "decorative wicker balls", you will see what I mean. And like Laura, I swap them out for glass ball ornaments at holiday time. :) Hope this helps and that your mojo returns soon! Hate that feeling, LOL.

Great card. I love how the windows look like they are really lit up.

Oh, forgot about the Hurricane jar: How about pinecones or acorns? Or, maybe seashells. I got a mix of stuff one time at Pottery Barn (don't know if you have that store) They sell cool seasonal stuff for this purpose. Z Gallery also has cool stuff.

I'm on the same page as the comment posted by Laura. I change mine out. Pinecones, mono-tone round ornaments, rocks, fake lemons, plastic Easter eggs... BTW, great card as usual!

I love this fun H'ween card!! As for your hurricane. I used to have two just like that. I had salt in the bottom of mine and pillar candles that I changed with the seasons/holidays. Instead of salt you could also use art sand and change the colors of that with the seasons. You could also fill them with Christmas ornaments that match your decor (had something like that in my guest bath...they were glass balls and I kept them in there year 'round - the colors matched). Or, seasonal decor - fill it with pinecones now and maybe sprinkle in some "fake snow"; fill it with flowers in spring, sand and seashells in summer, leaves/acorns in fall.

Joy, your blog is my very favorite to visit! I LOVE all your cards and your craft room is to die for!! I think you could put some sand and sea shells and a pillar candle and that would be so pretty?!

I would fill it with buttons! But maybe that's just me. For a more sophisticated look, you could try floating votives or flowers in water. Can you tell I don't have many decorative things around my house? Ohhhh college. :)

I love the card that you made today. Super spooky. I laughed so hard when you wrote "after much thrashing around in the craft room" because I imagined you sitting at your desk and throwing whatever that was within reach all over your room. Hehe. Hope your mojo comes back soon! Will send you some good mojo vibes over the Pacific. :)

Hugs!

What a perfect spooky background for your house! Looks to me like you still have your mojo Joy!

I have a pair of hurricanes just like yours. They each hold a very tall candle that is surrounded by river rocks. http://www.flickr.com/photos/33814521@N03/6015044055/in/photostream

During the Christmas holidays I fill them with ornaments all of the same colour but of different designs.

I see something like this, this or this in that vase!

Hi Joy,
The card looks fantastic...I wish I could come up with something like this when my mojo dissapears. As to your hurricane candle holder, I have one very similar. We have a candle sitting in the base with some Pot Pourri (I think thats how you spell it) around the bottom!
